The Bideford Bay 50k was very much a training run for me rather than a race. My goals were to be able to complete the race and yet still have a fast turn around recovery and hit the trails again. To anable this I had to run sub regular race speed and to consider my race nutrition carefully. Basically I ran to a pace which was below fatigue enducing and at any point in which I felt lactate start to build in my legs, I would knock the pace back. I had to use salt caps a few times so I suspect at points I ran a bit too fast but in general this was a successful attempt. I finished the race feeling well within my capabilities and was more than capable of running that evening. I found that using Torq race nutrition and recovery helped greatly and did not give me any stomach problems. Onwards and upwards!
